Never underestimate the power of Netflix for design ideas or just plain old decorating your home. I’m not just talking about repeats of HGTV programs on Netflix or other services. Watch for the variety of ideas that come from all the productions. You just need to pay attention to what is going on in the background.
Over this Winter, we watched a lot of Netflix. We love the shows from UK, for their content and the wonderful experience of seeing those fabulous English gardens. We especially enjoy the mysteries, but it wasn’t one of those that sent me on a treasure hunt a few weeks ago.
We rediscovered The West Wing (TV Series 1999-2006), where I caught a glimpse of a painting of American flags hanging over a small chest in the oval office. I was drawn to the painting and watched for it in all oval office scenes.
I decided to try Google and entered flag painting oval office in search. I discovered information about the painting HERE: Treasures of the White House: Avenue in the Rain. The painting was done in 1917 by Childe Hassam. Continuing my search, I found I could order a canvas print from Houzz. The print arrived within a few days. Michael’s just happened to be having a 70% off framing offer. It was meant to be.
The frame is an old gold with a beaded detail. A navy linen accent was added.
The print seems to be a good fit for our foyer.
The chest is Lexington Chez Michelle from the 1990’s. The rug is from Dash and Albert.
Wall color Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige.
