I picked up red and cream check fabric for a chair seat and decided to try it in the hearth room black cabinet instead. It will do for now, but I’m thinking I’ll find another style print to line the back of the cabinet.
Supplies include, fabric, foam board, scissors, measuring tape, straight edge(yardstick), utility knife, Duck Tape.

Winter 2011
I believe this is from 2009.
Winter 2014
A glance through the window toward the empty mantel of the back porch fireplace. I’ve waited to do anything about the emptiness because of the howling northerly winds we’ve been experiencing. I think I’ll wait for warmer calmer weather to do a cute little vignette. Perhaps then it will stay put.
This metal garden stool/table with a galvanized look is an irresistible purchase from Home Goods. I am going to try it in the hearth room makeover.
I chose this toile for two chair seats. That’s a story for another day.
Bloggers…Do you do projects to write about or do you write about projects you do? There is a definite difference. Or do you do a bit of both?
To the folks in the south, I hope the temperatures warm up and the ice melts soon. Speaking from experience, snow is one thing but ice is quite another.
EDIT
About the use of black in the hearth room. This is a photo taken at Christmas. The wicker sofa is temporary, due to granddaughter needing the sofa that was formerly in this room. We are in the process of redoing the hearth room. Four identical chairs and a large ottoman are ordered. When they arrive, the room will be finished with a few other changes.
In a comment from Lizzie she suggested the black may be too dark for our home. As you can see from this photo it is only a small part of the general design. When you back away and get a look at the room as a whole, you see the cabinet in black isn’t overpowering. Also keep in mind, this is not the finished room, this is just how it is, until the new chairs arrive.
There is a beautiful cabinet made of reclaimed barn wood, in the breakfast room. That cabinet is black and the kitchen island is black. Other furniture colors include creamy white, natural pine, and 8 chairs around the pine breakfast room table; two green, two orange, to golden yellow, and two red. Lots of color, with just a couple or three pieces in black, scattered through an approximate 500 square foot area.
No plans to paint. Just not in the works for a couple of folks, struggling with a few health issues.
