Changing the breakfast room window treatment from the linen curtains, shown below, has been under consideration for over a year.
While I like the linen, I like bamboo shades even more. We have these shades in most rooms of our home and we had them at our lake condo.
For now, I’m not adding panels to the windows. I like the clean look of the blinds. Panels are a possibility though.
Having wonderful natural light in our breakfast room/hearth room/kitchen was the main consideration. I was a tad concerned the bamboo might darken the spaces. I need not have worried.
We installed the new bamboo blinds in the breakfast room and hearth room, Friday and Saturday. J is in the process of installing the cord hardware.
Plates hang inside salvaged antique cabinet door. The bench was made by a Missouri artisan.
One other new addition to the breakfast room is this colorful rug. This is the first time I’ve used a rug under the 9 ft. farmhouse table.
I added a layer of walnut Minwax stain to the table, after a light sanding. The pine has changed hue over the years, making the finish too orange to suit me. One coat of walnut “knocked back” the orange just enough.
There is plenty of filtered light when the blinds are closed. We like the coziness it gives the rooms.
I shot the black and white photos of barns, in our county, using a 35mm film camera, several years ago.

Thank you to Carol (Carol’s Heirloom Collection) for noticing the bird nest in the fireplace vent and letting us know. J is taking care of the nest today. We haven’t used the fireplace this Fall. It won’t be long until we will need it.
