IMAGINE
THE POSSIBLILITIES
BEFORE
I snapped this photo around 8 AM, February 1st. The temperature was 8 degrees Fahrenheit.
This was the day trim guy chose to build a mantel on the back porch. The temperature was around 20 something by noon. I observed the progress from the warm and toasty hearth room. J eventually gave in and put on a jacket. What a hardy soul he is.
Miss Molly had sense enough to come in out of the chill and lie beside my chair.
Our trim guy built our basement/lodge bookshelves and did the other trim work for us last year.
The mantel construction finished and awaiting stain.
J and I shared the mantel staining, using Minwax white stain (water based). I’ll add a little wax when the weather warms up. The fireplace is fairly well protected, so we decided to use interior stain.
We wanted the mantel to appear as though it was made of rough pine boards, then whitewashed.
MANTEL REVEAL SATURDAY 2/9/2013
We toasted the new mantel, Saturday evening, then picked up our glasses and wine, grabbed the tulip bouquet and retreated to the warmth of the hearth room.
A weathervane until Spring.
