UNINVITED BLOG BREAK
I set the deck table, this afternoon. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to have any posts this week.
I put an easy post on Saturday, using the archives of the original Back Porch Musings, as I have not been well, for about a week.
I fully intended to blog visit, but was unable, due to the pain and discomfort. If you have had Shingles or know someone who has had Shingles, you understand what I am talking about.
I talked about our marathon trip home last week and mentioned an aching back. What I did not tell you was, I have Shingles. This is the third bout over several years and always in my back. I did not realize what it was until late Friday, then it dawned on me. I have had good days and bad days since Friday and some pretty bad nights. When I finally figured out what the problem was I knew what to do. I have rested and taken good care of myself. Since it was the weekend and we are at the lake, I decided to wait until Monday to call the doctor. Plus the Shingles are attached to my back. Had they been on my head/face I would have been at the ER first thing.
By Monday, I decided I had weathered the storm and would be okay without the prescription med, I’ve been given in the past.
I’ve slept a lot, when I find a comfortable spot. Today has been wonderful, with just a few twinges. Knock on wood I’ve managed to get through this third bout relatively easy. I believe it was worse than the second bout of Shingles, but not nearly as bad as the first. Fortunately they did not attach themselves to my head or neck!
The pain is like electrical shock or tiny very sharp knives. This pain will last several weeks or months as will the numbness that accompanies the other symptoms. Even after several years I have felt residual twinges.
You are left exhausted. I am still quite tired and just need to rest up awhile before plunging back into the swing of things in the land of blog.
I hope you will understand my brief absence.
I might be back with another new post later in the week.
(We are scheduled for Shingles shots in October.)
BOK CHOY SALAD
J prepared a pork loin on the grill Sunday. I felt okay, so I was able to throw this salad together.
The recipe can be found HERE.
