A Gentle Reminder
of who is in charge…
MISSION POSSIBLE~THE CHAIR
I mentioned, in a previous post, this was a busy week with appointments. An appointment with our Dentist, Thursday morning, was the last of those.
Finishing our checkups, just before 11AM, we picked Molly up and headed for Columbia (MO), about an hour and a half from home.
We were on a “mission”.
Last time we drove to the lake, we detoured around by Columbia, stopping at Veranda Antique Mall, where we saw a chair that interested us. I was looking for an accent chair, to use in the living room “makeover”. We looked the chair over, deciding to think about it, before purchasing. The more we thought about the chair, the more we wanted to have a second look. Yesterday was the day.
It was overcast when we left home, with a forecast of rain turning to snow, for evening. We thought we had plenty of time to make the drive over and back, before precipitation arrived.
We ran into sleet then a snow/sleet mixture, about halfway to Columbia. Undaunted, we proceeded on. The closer to Columbia, the heavier the snow. By the time we arrived at Veranda, driving was becoming just a tad interesting.
We took another look at the chair, a mahogany armchair with upholstered seat. We sat in the chair and examined it closely, still not quite sure it was THE chair. With one eye on the door, checking to see how traffic was moving, we took a walk through the store, just because it is really difficult to resist a walk around an antique mall.
Long story short…..we did not purchase the mahogany chair, because we found The chair during our quick walk around. I just knew it was the one. I soon found J, among antlers, in another area of the store. While looking for him, I found a piece of vintage wood trim, that also came home with us.
When J saw the chair he said, “That is definitely the chair!”
By this time the snow was really coming down, so we quickly made our purchase and headed for home. The drive home took a tad more time than an hour and half.
It is a slushy snow that will be gone in a couple of days. This is the way of late Winter snows, here in Missouri. This last weekend of February temperatures are to be in the 60 degree range.
See a snippet of THE chair, below. It is well worth the snowy drive.

The small chair has been stripped and a clear finish applied. It has a cane seat that looks to be in near perfect condition.
THE chair is exactly the tiny bit of whimsy I was looking for. I’ll show more of the chair in a post, Sunday or Monday.
HAPPY WEEKEND!
