FAUX ARTS
This is similar to how the room looked in 2003 when we first moved in.
Originally a larger darker rug was used. It matched the stair runners. There was a glass topped coffee table. Those are the only differences from this photo.
The silk plants made for wonderful corner fillers.
The furniture, shown here, has been dispersed throughout the house. The paisley sofa, striped chair, and settee are now in J’s lodge and work wonderfully well. I would not have thought, in the past, this scheme would work in a basically masculine environment. The vintage tables on either end of the sofa are stored away for another day, as is the round table. The chair in the foreground is in the master bedroom. The rug has been sold or one of the daughters has it. I can’t recall.
The print above the sofa is in a guest room.
Lots of bric-a-brac.
LIVING ROOM 2009
We replaced the wool rug with seagrass. The coffee table was at our lake place. One of our daughters has the table now.
It would be 2011, when another living room change began.
We bought this wine cabinet at a furniture store in Jefferson City MO, in 2003, while our home was under construction. It is one of our favorite pieces. When we first moved here, the cabinet was in the dining room, it is now in the living room under the triple window.
I like the gallery above the cabinet. All the prints, except the top middle print, were purchased on clearance from Pottery Barn. The prints in the lower row are now in the powder room.
Very traditional look. I really wanted Mary Carol Garrity’s living room…sigh...
The wool rug in the foyer remains. I haven’t found another rug I like as well. I love how it looks, plus it is very forgiving of black Labrador Retriever hair. Molly loves this rug. It is where she brings her treats or J’s socks.
The wall color at the time was Sherwin Williams Antique White.
The secretary is in the living room, these days. It sits in place of the grandfather clock.
LIVING ROOM 2013
The room has a traditional feel with a streamlined look. The walls were painted Sherwin Williams Nomadic Desert in ‘12.
The paisley pillows were added during Fall 2012.
Extra trim was added to the door in ‘12.
2013
In 2013, we’ve arrived at a look we are both happy with. While there were elements we liked in each look, we just did not like the overall look, until we arrived at the 2012/13 living room.
Gone are the large faux greenery pieces of ‘06 and some of the bric-a-brac. The trimmed down look suits us better and we like the neutral furniture.
Remember, it is your home, do what you like and don’t worry about trends and fads. Stay true to your decorating heart. It sure took me awhile to figure that out.
