This post is about J’s trip to the doctor yesterday.
I usually take my camera anytime we are out, but I was a tad preoccupied, yesterday. For this post, I am using two year old photos, from a beautiful November day trip.
We’ve noticed changes in J’s health over the past couple of months. We suspected what the problem might be. Our suspicions were confirmed yesterday. Of course, after an appointment with a neurologist, we will know more.
Since I did not take pretty pictures yesterday, I chose to use these from November 2010, when J and I found the pears at an old farmstead. With permission of the owner, we gathered pears and I made one of J’s favorites, Pear Honey.
HEALTH NEWS
Those of you who follow my personal page on Facebook, read about our news yesterday.
We both had check ups, Wednesday morning. Mine was pretty uneventful with the usual advice to drop a few pounds. This time I am monitoring my blood pressure for a month, as it was elevated yesterday. It is usually pretty good, controlled with medication. I imagine part of the reason, behind the bp elevation, is J’s health issue.
PARKINSON’S DISEASE
I’ve done a lot of research over the past few weeks, pending our appointment yesterday.
Shaking hands and unusual gate, are among J’s symptoms. My suspicion was Parkinson’s. J suspected this also. A cousin of his dad’s has Parkinson’s and we know several other people who have Parkinson’s. That’s why we are pretty sure that is the cause of J’s symptoms.
If you’ve visited Back Porch Musings for any length of time, you know J has had quite a health journey, which includes heart disease and cancer. He is my hero. He handles each of these issues with so much strength, it is unbelievable.
Two famous people with Parkinson’s are Mohammad Ali and Michael J Fox.
With medication, the symptoms can be lessened. There will be good days and bad days. And lots to learn along this journey.
Of course, J will know more when he sees the neurologist. Until then, our suspicions have not become an official diagnosis. But we are pretty sure, we already know; especially since we talked with our primary care physician yesterday.
I will continue posting about pretty things. This will be the only post I will write about J until we see the neurologist. After that I will write an update.
I know Back Porch Musings is supposed to be all about decorating, cooking, day trips. But in reality, it is a blog about our life, a lifestyle blog.
To be honest, there are definitely times when it is necessary to write about something other than pretty. This is one of those times.
We won’t dwell on this. We will, as always, continue to live our life together, knowing that each challenge always strengthens us.
Now you know why my visits and comments have been sporadic, lately. Lots to think about here at the Back Porch.
Our thoughts continue to be with our neighbors to the east.
