The Show Me State
The nickname for Missouri is The Show Me State. There are several stories concerning the origin of the "show me" slogan. The most widely known story gives credit to Missouri's U.S. Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver for coining the phrase in 1899. During a speech in Philadelphia, he said:
"I come from a state that raises corn and cotton and cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to show me."
The phrase is now used to describe the character of Missourians - not gullible - conservative and unwilling to believe without adequate evidence.
I bought these snack plates and cups, a year or so ago, at my friend Kathy’s garage sale.
The plates are just the right size for sandwiches and chips.
The cup is perfect for salad or slaw.
For this meal, last spring or summer, I used the cup for salsa.

SUNDAY MORNING WEATHER NEWS
Thank you for inquiring about our weather and wellbeing. Your concern is appreciated so much.
We had severe thunderstorms in our area, Saturday. Lots of lightning, thunder, rain and hail. Our NOAA radio sounded weather warnings through the night.
At our house, Saturday afternoon, we experienced all of the above. The hail was marble size. Larger hail was reported just south of where we live. We brought all the patio baskets and potted plants into the back porch. It looks as if there was no damage to the roof or gardens.
A tent collapsed in Downtown STL, where people were celebrating a Cardinal win. Several people were injured and one died.
There were no tornadoes near us, but there were watches. It’s cloudy again today. This weather pattern is to go through the week with a small break on Wednesday.
Our thoughts are with our neighbors as we go through Spring storm season.
